Vilano Shadow – Review, Tips & Guide

I’ve never been much of a biker. But after a bet with a friend, I found myself signed up for a triathlon.

I knew I could run, I knew I could swim, but how would I become an experienced biker in only a few short months?

I knew that I had to find the perfect entry-level bike, and I had to do it fast.

I came across plenty of options but the only one that caught my attention was the Vilano Shadow. It looked flashy, seemed to have plenty of options, and each Vilano bike review that I read made it sound like the perfect bike for someone like me.

I purchased my Shadow bike and life hasn’t been the same since.

Rating

One of the first things you’ll notice when checking out the Vilano bike is that it’s no ordinary bike!

This bike is extremely versatile.

It can be used for commuting, competitive cycling, or exploring Mother Nature’s bike paths. It’s a great bike for athletes but was also designed with a newbie in mind.

Don’t let the price fool you. If you check out a Vilano Shadow 2.0 review, you’ll see how impressed consumers are with this bike. You’ll be getting an amazing return on your investment with the Vilano Road Bike.

Size, Weight, and Dimension Options

The Shadow bike is a lightweight bike, coming in at just under 23 pounds. When the terrain doesn’t provide an ideal biking path, it’s easy enough to carry your bike until you reach flatter ground.

You can order your Vilano Road Bike in three different sizes. The smallest size measures in at 50 centimeters while the medium is 54 centimeters. If you need the large size, you’ll find that it measures in at a solid 58 centimeters.

All of the different sizes makes this bike even more versatile. No matter your height or build, one of these sizes will ensure that every ride on your Viano Shadow is completely comfortable.

How Do Integrated Shifters Work?

One of the best features about this bike is that it has Shimano STI Integrated Shifters.

Why is this such a huge benefit?

It’s a system designed for racing bicycles, but even if you never plan on racing your Shadow bike, you’ll love the combination of braking and gear shifting.

In a nutshell, integrated shifters allow you to shift gears quickly and easily. You don't have to remove your hands from the bars, giving you a more enjoyable ride on roads where bikes may use full lane.

It's a completely accurate shifting and braking experience. A combined unit means that you’ll spend more time biking and less time operating.

How Long Does It Take to Assemble the Vilano Shadow?

This was one of my main concerns prior to my purchase of the Vilano Shadow.

I barely knew how to ride a bike, so I was a bit intimidated when it came to the Vilano Shadow assembly process. But when the time came, I was pleasantly surprised.

Some parts were already assembled, and while I did have to scrounge up some tools to assemble the rest, the bike came together pretty quickly.

All in all, it should only take you about half an hour to go from a box of parts to an awesome bike.

Pros

Insane Value

You really can’t get a better bike for the price. It’s lightweight, handles extremely well, and is made to last. If you’re looking for a great bike without a huge financial commitment, the Vilano Shadow 2.0 Road Bike is the one for you.

Built to Last

The Vilano Shadow Road Bike is made with quality components that almost seem too good to be true, considering the price. The body of the bike is sturdy and strong.

Excellent Acceleration

I found that the Vilano bike accelerated quickly and easily, just like the Vilano Forza 3.0. It seemed to glide across flat surfaces, giving me confidence in my biking abilities and allowing me to focus on the ride instead of pedaling.

Cons

Road Vibrations

On certain road surfaces, I did experience a lot of road vibration. But this was easily remedied with some padded cycle gloves.

Size Matters

My wife wanted to give this bike a try. She loved everything about it but seemed to have some difficulty operating the shifters This wasn’t because they were complicated to use but because she felt that her hands were too small to operate them.

Flat Tires

I love this bike so much that I’ve recommended it to several of my friends. Of those who have purchased it, several have complained about the tires going flat fairly quickly.

However, this has never happened to me so I’m not sure if it’s an issue with the bike or simply a strange coincidence.

Overall, the Vilano Shadow is an excellent entry-level bike for beginners or a great extra bike for experts to keep around.

It’s affordable, attractive, and functions just as you would hope a bike would. You’ll spend more time enjoying the ride instead of trying to figure out how to operate the bike or wishing you had bought something with a little more power.

As far as my triathlon went, I ended up doing my best during the biking portion of the race. If that’s not a positive Vilano bike review, I’m not sure what is.

If you want to make biking part of your life, the only right way to do it is with the Shadow bike. You’ll be able to go the distance and enjoy every second of it
