I finally went snorkeling! It’s been on my bucket list for years, but I’m happy to say that I finally conquered my fears and explored the ocean.
But you better believe that I did a ton of research, especially when it came to finding the perfect snorkeling mask. I ended up choosing the Tribord Easybreath Snorkeling Mask for my adventure, and I think I made the best choice.
Come with me as I explain what makes the Easybreath snorkeling mask so amazing and how it can have you exploring the wonders of the open water with confidence and clarity.
Tribord Easybreath Full Face Snorkeling Mask
If you’ve ever been snorkeling before, you understand how amazing the experience can be. But you also understand the importance of a high-quality snorkeling mask.
Often times, snorkeling masks make breathing difficult or uncomfortable, the opposite of what they should do. The Tribord Easybreath eliminates common issues and complaints found with other models and provides the user with a way to enjoy snorkeling on a brand-new level.
It’s perfect for newbies, experienced snorkelers, and even kids. This mask has a ton of features that make it one of the best snorkeling masks available, all for a price that’s reasonable.
What Is the Tribord Easybreath Snorkeling Mask?
The Tribord Easybreath is an innovative invention for the underwater explorer. It allows you to see and breathe underwater just as easily as you would on shore.
If you’ve found breathing through a traditional snorkel mouthpiece to be uncomfortable or difficult, the Easybreath snorkeling mask is just what you need.
It fits over your entire face, leaving you free to breathe through your nose without worrying about taking in water. You’ll enjoy an unobstructed 180-degree field of vision, and you don’t have to worry about the mask fogging up thanks to its double air-flow system.
For even more added protection against unwanted water, the snorkel is equipped with a mechanism that plugs the top. Even if you immerse the snorkel in water, you’ll stay dry and able to breathe.
There’s one more safety feature. The snorkel is highly visible, more visible than most, to avoid collisions on the surface of the water.
It’s perfect for advanced snorkelers who are tired of uncomfortable mouthpieces, people who have never gone snorkeling before because of their fears, and kids who might have difficulty adjusting to a mouthpiece. In other words, it’s great for the entire family and can take the stress out of snorkeling.
How Does It Work?
A standard snorkel mask covers only the eyes and nose. The user is unable to breathe through their nose, and while they can see through the eye covering portion, the view is limited.
The user also places a large mouthpiece into their mouth, which is attached to a tube. The top of the tube remains above water, allowing the user to breathe fresh air.
But the Easybreath covers the user's entire face. This allows them to breathe just as they would on land, both through their mouth and nose.
The mask doesn’t restrict their vision as much, and the tip of the snorkel tube doesn’t allow water to accidentally drip into the mask. This means the user can go completely underwater for short amounts of time.
Most importantly, they can enjoy their experience more because they aren’t worried about their mask failing or causing discomfort.
Pros & Cons of Using the Tribord Easybreath Snorkeling Mask
I haven’t come across a snorkeling mask that’s as impressive as the Tribord Easybreath but because the perfect mask for me might not be the perfect mask for everyone else, here’s a list of pros and cons regarding the mask that you can use to decide if it’s right for you.
I’ve had cheap snorkeling masks break the first day I’ve bought them. But I knew the second that I held the Tribord that it was built to last. It didn’t feel flimsy or cheap. The mask is a bit more expensive than most, but it’s easy to see why.
I never experienced fog while using this mask. What’s the point in snorkeling if you can’t see everything that’s going on beneath the surface due to fog? You’ll enjoy your entire snorkeling experience because of the smart technology behind the mask’s design.
Entire Face Stays Dry
Unlike other masks, your entire face stays dry while using the Easybreath. This might not be important to everyone, but I really appreciated it because sea water can really dry out my skin, especially on my face. This left me without the itchy skin I usually deal with at the beach.
Great for Nervous Swimmers
The first time you snorkel can be very nerve wracking. You worry if you have the mouthpiece right and if everything has been adjusted correctly. But with the Easybreath, a few quick adjustments are all it takes to ensure that your mask is on correctly.
It also allows you to breathe more naturally compared to other masks. Because breathing feels natural, suddenly snorkeling doesn’t seem as intimidating.
Harder to Dive Down
I was able to get more under water than I probably should have with the mask. You will definitely feel an increase in pressure, which is why it’s not recommended to dive down at all.
If you want to get up close and personal with coral, fish, and the ocean landscape, I would recommend scuba diving. It’s a lot more work, but it’s safer than diving down with a snorkel mask.
Window Can Crack
Be careful where you leave your snorkeling mask. It won’t take much pressure for the window to crack. It only takes a second for someone to step on or drop their mask and then it’s no longer functional.
I have heard of other companies using stronger materials for their windows, but users complain that the view isn’t nearly as clear as with the Easybreath.
Tight on Face
In order to provide the tight seal, the mask needs to fit very securely to your face. I noticed that it was very tight on my cheeks and jaw. There were also some noticeable marks on my face when I took it off. But those quickly disappeared.
Even though it was a tight mask, I wouldn’t choose a more traditional snorkeling mask over it because of this issue. If anything, it made me feel secure in the mask’s performance.
How to Choose the Correct Mask Size
There are four sizes to choose from, and using the correct size is crucial. To figure out which is the best for you, measure the distance between the bridge of your nose and the bottom of your chin.
Make sure your mouth is closed. Then use the following Tribord Easybreath sizing guide to order the right mask for you:
Less than 10 cm - size XS
10 cm to 12 cm - Size S/M
12 cm – 13 cm - Size M/L
More than 13 cm - size L/XL
Make sure you measure more than once, just to be certain that your measurement is correct. When you do get your mask, try it on and make sure there are no gaps between the bottom of the mask and your chin.
Why Can't You Free Dive with the Easybreath Mask?
The Easybreath wasn’t designed for free diving, only for surface snorkelling. You can’t use the mask for free diving for a few reasons.
First, the dry top system won’t work in a horizontal position. Second, the volume of air contained in the mask is much greater than what a traditional mask would hold. This means that even in shallow water, the pressure on your face can become quite uncomfortable when free diving.
Also, if you’ve been free diving before, you know that you need to equalize the pressure immediately afterwards. This is normally done by holding your nose and gently blowing. But you are unable to reach your nose when wearing the mask, so this is virtually impossible and can put your eardrums at risk.
Precautionary Measures When Using the Tribord Easybreath Snorkeling Mask
The most important thing to keep an eye out for is sand! Sand can clog the float valve inside the snorkel. If this happens, rinse the snorkel vigorously or use something like a key that can fit through the vents to unblock the valve.
Make sure to rinse the mask completely of sand. You should also prevent sand from touching the mask because it can scratch the window. If there is sand present, don’t force the snorkel to clip. Instead, rinse the snorkel and mask first.
To extend the life of your mask, make sure to wash it by hand with a gentle washing liquid once a week. Store it between uses in a ventilated mesh bag to prevent mold growth.
Can I Wear This if I Have a Beard?
If you’ve tried to use a snorkeling mask with facial hair in the past, you know how frustrating it can be. Most of the time, the hair causes a leak and leaves you wondering if your mask is going to be able to keep the water out once you’re exploring.
But one of the features that’s most impressive about the Tribord is that because it's a full face snorkel mask, you don’t have to worry about leaks. The mask seals perfectly to your face, leaving you confident in its ability to keep up as you explore the open water. If your beard is large or extra full, you might still experience a small bit of leakage.
Can I Use This with a GoPro?
There is no attachment on this mask for a GoPro. I have heard of people buying attachments and making it compatible with a GoPro, but I didn’t feel the need to do this.
The positioning of the camera wouldn’t provide you with the shots you want, because it would be above the water. I found that a simple underwater camera gave me the shots I wanted and more control over them as well.
Swimming Tips While Wearing the Tribord Easybreath Snorkeling Mask
Did you know the Easybreath snorkeling mask can be used while swimming in a pool? It can solve many common swimming problems. Here are some great tips and tricks if you’re thinking about using a mask in a pool, lake, or the ocean to swim.
Even though you’ll be able to breathe normally in your mask, you won’t have access to as much air as you normally would. This can make strenuous exercise difficult to breathe through. So if you’re swimming with the mask on, swim at half your normal pace to avoid becoming out of breath.
Ideal for Neck Pain
If you’re recovering from an injury or have difficulty turning your neck to breathe during certain swimming styles, the mask can definitely help you continue your workout or training without having to turn your neck. Simply breathe normally with the mask until you’re able to turn your neck without discomfort to breathe.
No Unwanted Water
Some swimmers struggle with swallowing or inhaling water, even the most experienced. If this is an issue for you, imagine being able to swim for hours without having to worry about that dreaded feeling of water entering your nose or mouth. With the Easybreath, you’ll be able to fully concentrate on your swimming and breathe completely naturally.
When it comes to snorkeling, your entire experience depends on your mask. Whether you’re a regular underwater explorer or want to give it a try for the first time, the Tribord Easybreath Snorkeling Mask is the perfect accessory to bring along.
There’s a size for everyone in the family, and breathing will feel natural and comfortable. You’ll be able to see crystal clear and experience all the beauty of the ocean. I hope this Tribord Easybreath review has shown you how much easier and enjoyable snorkeling can be.
