Best Hand Strengthener – Top 10 Reviewed

Do you think you have strong hands? I used to, too. But then, I was introduced to a type of exercise that I had never thought of.

While sit-ups, push-ups, and cardio are well-known types of exercises, using a hand strengthener to work out fingers, palms, and forearms doesn’t occur to most people.

At first, I was a little wary. I didn’t think I needed to dedicate time each week to strengthening my hands. But once I figured out how beneficial using hand grippers was, I never looked back.

Stick around to learn about my favorite brands of hand strengtheners and exactly how you should use them to enjoy more endurance and strength.

1. Gripmaster Hand Exerciser

This is my favorite hand exerciser for finger curls. I can really focus on each finger individually to improve my dexterity.

Each finger rests on top of a patented spring-loaded finger piston that helps improve hand, wrist, and forearm strength.

You’ll love the exercise program that comes with your hand exerciser. It will really help you get the most out of each session.

2. Epitomie Fitness Finger Master Hand Strengthener

Epitomie thought of it all when they designed this hand strengthener. It can be customized by locking any of the five pistons in place, allowing the user to exercises with five different grippers.

It’s ideal for athletes and musicians, but it can also be beneficial for anyone suffering from arthritis, carpal tunnel, or healing from wrist surgery.

You’ll appreciate the soft, malleable material used to make the gripper. I found it to be incredibly comfortable.

3. LifeStyle Lite Hand Grip Strengthener

Never used a hand grip strengthener before? Then this is the one for you. It’s great for beginners, because it’s adjustable and can go as low as 22 pounds resistance.

This level will introduce you to hand strengthening without worrying about strain or injury. I was impressed with the smooth and quiet motion of this strengthener. It’s become one of my favorites.

4. Kootek Hand Grip Strengthener

I recommended this hand grip strengthener to a friend who had recently had surgery on his wrist. He’s an avid golfer and wanted to get back to the game as soon as possible.

He was hesitant at first. He didn’t think it would work, but after a couple weeks, he gave me a call and admitted that he could feel a difference.

He was excited to continue using the strengthener to improve his golf game and heal from his surgery quicker. Pick up this strengthener if you suffer from arthritis, carpal tunnel, or tendonitis to improve your condition.

5. Norse Strengths Hand Grip Strength Strengthener

This hand strengthener is on the smaller side, so it’s great to keep in your backpack or purse. You can do a few reps on the train, in the car, at work, or while sitting and enjoying some time outdoors.

It only takes a few minutes a day to make a huge difference in your strength and endurance.

When your friends are dealing with carpal tunnel or tennis elbow, your hands will be stronger than they’ve ever been.

6. Fitness Master Hand Grip Strengthener with Adjustable Resistance

Here’s another adjustable hand grip strengthener that’s ideal for the beginner or anyone healing from an injury or surgery.

You can set the resistance to as low as 20 pounds. The design is ideal for all hand sizes, including those of men, women, and children. The added grooves in the grip provide maximum comfort and prevent slipping.

The design is basic, but the performance is superior.

7. xfitness Hand Grippers 2.0

If you’re all about style, you’ll love that you get to choose your color with these hand grippers. Select black, blue, white, yellow, or pink.

But more importantly, the solid aluminum handles provide a comfortable hold and a non-slip grip that will make each session safe and effective.

The springs are coated in a rust-proof protectant spray, and you’ll also appreciate the lifetime guarantee. This is the company’s second design, and I found it to be quite comfortable and effective.

8. Fitness Insanity Hand Grip Strengthener

I loved the unique design of this hand grip strengthener. It comes with a waterproof carrying case for working out on the go, making it perfect for travelers.

You’ll receive four exercises guide eBooks. But my favorite part about this hand exercise equipment was that it was adjustable. You can go as low as 22 pounds and as high as 88.

This is a great strengthener for beginners and comes with a lifetime warranty.

9. 321 Strong Finger Strengthener and Hand Exerciser

I found the tension in these hand exercisers to be perfect. I would recommend them to anyone who plays a musical instrument or spends time in the gym lifting weights.

These hand grips are a little smaller than most, so they’re great for traveling. You’ll also appreciate the 100% lifetime warranty and satisfaction guarantee. The exerciser comes with an eBook to help you get the most out of your workouts.

10. ProSource Hand Grip and Wrist Strengthener

The Prosource is a basic model, but it’s affordable and gets the job done. It provides enough resistance to work your hands, wrists, forearms and fingers.

You can choose from six different strengths. I bought several so that I could move up as my hand strength increased.

If you just want to get the work done without anything fancy, these are the hand grippers for you.

Do Hand Grip Exercises Work?

Just like any type of exercises, consistency is crucial when doing hand grip exercises. With consistent execution, these exercises can strengthen hand muscles and give you a stronger grip.

What’s the Benefit of a Stronger Grip?

There are many hand strengthener benefits, including the following:

Toned Forearms

If you’ve always wanted your forearms to look more muscular and stronger, hand grippers are the perfect exercise tools. The muscles in your forearm control the muscles in your fingers. So by flexing your forearm muscles to do your handgrip exercises, you’re bulking up your forearm as well.

Endurance and Strength

We use our hands all day. From completing chores around the house to typing at our desks, improved hand endurance and strength can be incredibly beneficial.

Have you ever been carrying something heavy, only to have your hands give out before your arms? With better hand endurance and strength, you’ll be able to carry luggage, pull ropes, and lug in groceries without breaking a sweat.

Your workouts will improve as well, as you’re able to better grip weights. You’ll also see improvement in sports such as tennis or rock climbing.

Better Dexterity

Better dexterity can help in several areas of our lives. First, if you type a lot, you know how tired fingers can quickly get. By strengthening fingers individually through finger curls with hand grippers, you can keep your fingers working faster and/or longer.

Better dexterity can also help when playing musical instruments, sewing, or any other work where finger strength comes into play.

How Do I Train with Hand Grippers?

To train with your hand grippers, follow these hand strengthener exercises. Keep in mind that your particular set might have slightly different instructions, so always refer to the manual included with your hand grippers, if applicable.

Exercise 1

Begin by placing one handle of the hand grips against your palm. Then wrap your fingers around the handle. Slowly squeeze the handles together.

You might not be able to squeeze them all the way. That’s okay. Just squeeze as hard and far as you can. Hold the squeeze for about five seconds before slowly releasing it. I recommend starting with two sets of 10 squeezes.

Do this for each hand, slowly building up the repetitions and sets as your hands get stronger.

Exercise 2

Grab onto the hand grip, keeping your fingertips on the handles. Avoid using too much of your palm. Next, use both hands to squeeze the handgrip together.

Remove the hand not wrapped around the hand grip and perform a reverse squeeze exercise by releasing the grip of your hand as slowly as possible. Do two sets of five squeezes, since these are a little harder. Build up repetitions as you gain strength.

Exercise 3

This final exercise is known as finger curls. Place the hand grip in the palm of your hands. Next, place your fingertips on the springs.

Curl your fingers like you’re making a fist in order to close the springs. Slowly release your grip. You can make this exercise more difficult by only curling one finger at a time. Do just a single set of 10 repetitions for each hand before building up.

What’s the Recommended Resistance Range for Beginners?

If you’re just beginning, it’s recommended to begin with a set of hand grippers that have a 100-pound resistance, 150 pounds max. Make sure you always use the best hand grip strengthener for your skill level.

What Muscles Do Hand Strengtheners Build?

When you squeeze, you’re engaging just about every muscle in your hand and many in your forearm, including the forearm flexors and forearm extensors. While your fingers and grip strengthen, your forearm will improve in appearance and look more toned and firm.

Can Hand Strengtheners Strain Muscles or Cause Substantial Injuries?

Just like with any exercise, there is a risk for muscle strain. However, having stronger hand muscles can actually prevent injuries in daily activities.

In other words, the benefits outweigh the risks, as long as you follow the proper recommendations with hand grippers to prevent injury.

Do Hand Strengtheners Help Climbers?

Yes, hand grip exercise equipment can help climbers. Being able to strongly grip the edges of rocks and cliffs, which are often oddly shaped and smooth, is crucial to rock climbing.

If your fingers have ever slipped due to fatigue, imagine how beneficial stronger fingers could be to your success.

Do I Need to Include Hand Strengtheners in My Gym Routine?

I wouldn’t say you need to squeeze it in between the treadmill and the leg press machine, but I would make it a habit to work on your hand strength every week.

Hand grippers don’t require a ton of space or equipment other than the hand grippers themselves. I like to do my hand strength exercises on the couch while watching television at night or after using my Bowflex Blaze Home Gym.

What Other Activities/Sports Benefit from a Better Hand Grip?

There aren’t too many activities or sports that wouldn't be benefited from improved hand strength, grip, and dexterity. It might surprise you to learn that your hand strength is directly linked to your core strength.

That’s because if you want your core to work as hard as it can, all the muscles in your body need to be under tension. If any part of your body is weak, this limits how hard your core can work.

So whether you play a sport or have a physically demanding hobby, a stronger grip can help you excel at your craft.

What Medical Conditions Do Hand Grippers Help Alleviate?

Hand exercise equipment can help with a variety of medical conditions. Never self-treat a medical condition with hand grippers, and speak to your doctor if you have any concerns. That being said, here are a couple conditions that can potentially be improved with a stronger grip:

Lowered Stress Levels

Squeezing a handgrip contracts your muscles and then releases them. This can help alleviate tension and stress throughout the entire body, which can promote better sleep, help your body fight off illness, and give you a more positive outlook.

Physical Improvements

If your hands have become weaker because of sprains, fractures, arthritis, or age, hand exercise equipment can help rehabilitate the injured area. If you suffer with daily wrist and hand pain, a hand grip routine can help.

You can also complete a hand grip exercise to lower blood pressure. Just by spending a few minutes each night using a hand strengthener while watching television, I’ve drastically improved the quality of my life.

I’m able to complete tasks around the house faster, my trips to the gym have been more productive, and I never deal with finger fatigue when I’m sending more emails than usual. If you have a few minutes to spare every night todo hand exercises, you’ll love the long term results.
